The surroundings of Klášterec nad Ohří are rich in castle ruins, and we’ve got two tips worth your afternoon. The first is Šumburk Castle, dating back to the 15th century. You can still see the gate, walls, and remains of the main tower. Take the red trail from Perštejn (and on the way back, stop by the local brewery for a beer and a bite), or walk along the Ohře River from Klášterec. If you’d like to get a bit closer by car, park near Klášterecká Jesen in Šumná, then hike up the hill.
The second is Egerberk Castle, even older and a bit more mysterious – its founder remains unknown. To reach this journey into the Middle Ages, start from the village of Lestkov and hike uphill following the red tourist trail.
